The purpose of this book is to
help those interested in breeding and/or keeping exotic birds,
specifically the family Loriidae. I have intentionally kept
the information practical and simple so as not to complicate
this text with scientific terms that only a few might understand.
The information and techniques
gained by today's aviculturists are rapidly expanding, and
need to be shared in order to bridge the knowledge between
the novice and the experienced aviculturist.
Only the species of Lories and
Lorikeets that are presently available in American aviaries
are illustrated and noted in this book. Hopefully more species
will become available in the near future.
I feel that true aviculture is
a form of conservation -- at any level of propogation. This
should always be the primary objective, even though aviculture
is a pleasurable and satisfying hobby.
