Sub-species: Pyrrhura
frontalis frontalis
P.f.frontalis is the
nominate species, 10” in length and is found in
southeastern Brazil from Bahia to Rio de Janeiro.
It is mostly dark green in color with a maroon band
across the cere. The ear coverts are a buff brown
color. The sides of the neck and upper breast are
olive edged in light yellow creating a barred or
scaly appearance.The primaries are blue with green
at their tips. A patchy maroon area is found on
the abdomen and lower back. The tail feathers are
green at their base with brownish red tips. The
beak is black or dark grey with an off white cere.
Their legs and feet are grey.
